Wing & Son

5 Pedal Upright Piano   Cir 1916

SOLD

Frank L. Wing envisioned the piano as a complete instrument being able to give the sense of a complete orchestra. Wing & Son pianos, like this one, were generally equipped with an optional 5 pedal mechanism that mimicked the tones of various string instruments like the mandolin, guitar, zither, harp, and banjo. The 5 pedals are labeled from left to right: Mandolin, Orchestra, Expression, Soft, and Forte. (The Forte pedal is the standard “damper” pedal).

The Wing & Son Piano Company had a reputation for building only high quality pianos and sold them exclusively from their lavish mail order catalogs.

This unique piano has been well maintained and is ready to be enjoyed.

Bush & Gerts

Satin Mahogany    Cir 1912

Bush & Gerts was a very well respected piano manufacturer. William L. Bush and John Gerts formed the company along with Bush’s son. The younger Bush had worked at piano companies, including the Kimball Piano Company. John Gerts was born in Germany and, as a young man, learned piano building at Otto Bors, a renowned piano manufacturer in Hamberg Germany. Gerts came to the United States in 1870 and worked 15 years in the piano industry before forming the partnership with Bush.

John Gerts was an old-school piano manufacturer who had mastered all branches of the art. His skill along with William L. Bush’s business knowledge created a very successful partnership.

Bush & Lane

Satin Mahogany    Cir 1905

Walter Lane was an amazing piano designer/builder who had the exceptional ability to discover new ways of doing things while adhering to traditional concepts. His pianos reflect his desire for solidity and massiveness. A giant framework is wrapped in beautiful cabinetry. Perhaps no other piano case designs have been so extensively copied by other piano manufacturers.

Lane created the tone of his pianos by original construction methods of the soundboards. Some of the best actions in upright piano history may be found in the Bush & Lane piano.

Walter Lane would insist that every part piano that bore his name was of the highest quality and precision. This attention to detail along with fabulous designs is evident in how these pianos perform today.
